Things will change for a while, and then things will change again.........USA, will have a dominate presence in the Pacific for a long time.
This was an article written by an arsehole for the consumption of other arseholes.
And a bigger arsehole Yank is whining about it!
I think Duterte should check his life insurance policy and his health if he does not want to die of cancer like so many South American leaders.
What he needs now is a nice new Chinese port to welcome his new allies.
A very stupid one sided article! This article reminds me of the NeverTrump movement.
How many times did this article Communist China's take over of Africa? How many times did the article mention Communist China's take over of most of the Island in the Southwest Pacific Ocean?
America is not the problem Communist China is the true imperialist power. The Philippine President is being bought off just like the corrupt officials of the Pacific Islands.
Let them die. People who sell out to evil do not deserve life. Don't call us when you find you are a satellite of China.
Fine. Bring them all home, and deploy them on our southern border.
Both borders. Justina is a sick rat.
Does no one have an editor? What exactly is Duerte's bold move? A bowel movement. One apartment to another?
Fine with me as long as the handouts also stop.
If the US pulled our of Korea, the two Koreas (who were united for two thousand years) would start serious talks. In the end, North Korea would be overwhelmed by the South's economy. Just look at what happened in Vietnam or Germany after reunification. Koreans will always have more affinity with each other no matter their ideology than they have with people from other nations and races.
Without US occupation, Korea would never have been divided and China would have had no role. The resistance that fought against the Japanese would have taken over the reins of government and evolved in some practical Asian manner. It was the Russians that liberated Korea from Japan after the war, not China. And the Russians were stupid enough to halt at the 37th parallel, instead of sweeping south before the Americans landed to take over the Japanese occupation administration, enforced in a number of brutal repsressions of local nationalist resistance.
China is also moving into Micronesia with considerable illegal tuna fishing operations in the area, but nothing is done to curtail this activity as the Chinese bribe the local government. The US government gives Micronesia around $150 million a year - that also ends ups in the bank accounts of these local politicians.
The Marshall Islands at one time sold citizenships which were mostly bought up by Chinese. These passports allow the Chinese to enter the US Visa free.
The Chinese are surrounding the US bases in Guam and Kwajelein...
That's because your bases are surrounding their country so yeah you are the problem.
no problem duarte' - china moving in as u.s. leaves
oh, you didn't want new tenants?
China's always been in there, you don't get to be president of that nation without some measure of Chinese blood flowing through you. Take a good look at their major banks, and who owns them. Than do the same with shopping malls.
China is hugely exposed to a hydrocarbon embargo, just the way Imperial Japan was. Hence, the militant Chinese occupation of the S. China Sea is pretty existential for them.
The only local energy resource in China is coal, whose versatility can be extended by a massive switch to EVs, with the electricity generated by coal. Don't expect much carbon reduction from China. (They've also slashed Green Tech investments by 40% since last year).
if corona continue to scare people, places like Philippines that live off tourism will get hit badly. They are between a rock and a hard place and recent trade wars didn't help. On the other side, when you are already so poor things cant get much worse from there.
